In a new study, it was found that regular use of yogurt reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Results of the study of physicians, published in the scientific journal American Journal of Hypertension, showed that an increased amount of yogurt in the diet can reduce the risk of developing hypertension, writes the Independent. In particular, a group of physicians managed to confirm that regular consumption of yogurt allows to reduce the risk of high blood pressure and positively affect the health of the heart.

The study involved 55,898 women aged 30 to 55 years, as well as 18232 men aged 40 to 75 years. All participants in the experiment, which began in 1980, suffered from hypertension. In the course of the study, the authors analyzed information about the diet and dietary preferences of the participants in the experiment, who answered the questions of doctors every four years for 60 items.

As a result, it was unexpectedly found out that the more yoghurt the participants consumed, the less heart disease suffered after a few years. Thus, it was noted that those respondents who consumed two portions of yogurt per week in the future had a 20 percent lower probability of developing cardiovascular diseases, including strokes.

Women who ate yogurt at least twice a week were 30 times less likely to be at risk of myocardial infarction. In men, this figure was slightly lower - fans of yogurt had a 19 percent lower probability of developing a myocardial infarction.
