Russia is preparing to withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights and to stop taking into account the decisions of the Strasbourg Court, if the judges continue to be guided by openly anti-Russian principles of decision-making. This became known to RIA Novosti from sources in the relevant Russian departments. "The Russian authorities are exploring the possibility of denouncing the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and terminating cooperation with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) if the current line of the court, as a result of which the ECHR decisions against Russia's interests appear, will not be corrected" , - informed the interlocutors of the agency. They pointed out that recently the ECHR's position has been openly politicized towards Russia. "The court refuses to take into account the peculiarities of the Russian legal system and the norms of international law, often resorts to the practice of" double standards, "sources said.. This became especially noticeable after, after depriving the Russian delegation of the right to vote in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the election of judges of the ECHR without the participation of representatives of Russia. If the decision on denunciation of the European Convention is adopted, then Russia will be exiting the jurisdiction of the ECHR and ending the membership of the Russian Federation in the Council of Europe.
