Denmark and Finland ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively in the annual ranking of the international human rights organization Transparency International as the country with the lowest level of corruption. The leader this year was New Zealand, notes EuroPulse.

Among the EU countries in the top ten were also Sweden, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. In general, Western Europe is recognized as the region with the best indicators of government transparency with an average score of 66 points out of 100 (the maximum scored by New Zealand is 88 points). At the same time, the Eastern Europe region was one of the most corrupt, with just 34 points.

180 countries are represented in the rating. Experts and businessmen assess the transparency of decisions taken on a scale from 0 (completely corrupted) to 100 (absolutely transparent). As the authors of the report write, in general, the countries either show very little success in the fight against corruption, or do not show positive dynamics at all.
