American health authorities report that obesity is responsible for 40% of cancer in the country.

This does not mean that every person overweight is doomed to cancer, but obesity is reliably associated with 13 types of cancer.

According to the US Central Committee, many of these frightening connections do not lend themselves to scientific explanation.

"The results of a recent study suggest that obesity and overweight in 2014 were associated with cancers in 630,000 Americans. These are 13 types of cancer, including brain cancer, multiple myeloma, esophageal cancer, breast cancer after menopause, thyroid cancer, stomach and pancreatic cancer, hepatobiliary system tumors, ovarian, uterus and colon cancer, "the experts said in a statement..

According to the executive director of the CKZ Ann Shushat, the connection between obesity and cancer still surprises people. Polls show that the population is actively engaged in the prevention of cancer, but does not consider the fight against overweight one of its most important elements. This state of affairs worries epidemiologists.

Among 630,000 cancer patients associated with obesity, 2/3 were people aged 50-74 years.

Between 2005 and 2014, the number of such cases in America increased by 7%, while non-overweight cancer receded - a reduction in the incidence rate for the same period was 13%. It is not surprising for a country where 65% of the adult population is overweight and little concerned about it.

Interestingly, women are more likely to suffer from oncological diseases associated with obesity - 55% compared to 24% for men (except for blacks, where the incidence of men was higher).

More details about the results of the analysis can be found in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

Farhad Islami, the Strategic Director for Cancer Research of the American Cancer Society, recalls the other, no less significant risk factors. The World Cancer Research Foundation (WCRF) found that every fifth oncological disease in developed countries is the result of a tragic combination of obesity, hypodynamia, alcohol and malnutrition. A separate line is smoking, the harm of which is known for a long time.
