After the closing ceremony of the XXIII Winter Olympic Games, WWF Russia Director Igor Chestin stepped up his work and sent a "long-awaited" letter to IOC representative Christophe de Capper. In his message, Chestin said that the committee in every possible way turns a blind eye to the inaction of officials who do not fulfill the promise to compensate for environmental damage caused after the Olympics, Kommersant reports.. A vivid example of ignoring the environmental problem was the Olympics held in Sochi. The scale Sochi Olympic infrastructure was promoted by large-scale cutting, and the construction of the complex occurred in specially protected areas. In 2012, officials made a promise to ecologists to compensate for numerous construction projects that remained unfulfilled. On the contrary, in 2015 the Ministry of Natural Resources canceled the agreed project on the protection of the territory. Ecologists are sure that the construction of ski resorts in protected areas has become more important than the preservation of nature. "Unfortunately, the situation not only remains unresolved, but continues to worsen," says Igor Chestin's letter. Ecologist blames IOC for indulging Russian officials. On numerous requests, at least somehow report on this issue, the IOC decided to hide behind the text from the Ministry of Natural Resources to stay away. Chastin is dissatisfied not only with the invasion and desecration of the territory of the Caucasus. According to him, other winter Olympic games also harmed the environment. "For Korea, too, of course, there are claims - there under the ski slopes cut down entire slopes, because of this, the forest plantations. In Vancouver, too, not all is well with the legacy of the Games of 2010. It can be seen that the Olympic damage to nature is a common problem that should be frankly discussed and which must be given serious consideration. And Sochi is a good example of how not to do, "says WWF Director.

It remains only to hope that the message of ecologists will finally receive a response from the IOC. The solution to the problem of causing harm to nature shift from the "dead center". It is worth noting that, due to ignoring WWF alarms, the first biological species that has disappeared on Earth due to the Olympic Games - a butterfly.
