In 2017, employees of foreign diplomatic missions in Berlin committed 22,903 violations of traffic rules - 21 percent more than in the previous year. This follows from police statistics, published by the newspaper Bild.

Leader among violators are diplomats from Russia. Their share in the past year accounted for 817 violations of traffic rules. On the second place - Americans (667), on the third - diplomats from Egypt (659). The top ten includes diplomats from Ukraine (496 violations).

The Botswana Embassy in Berlin has only seven vehicles in its fleet, but each of them has 76 violations - the highest number per vehicle. In the top ten offenders, Botswana (535) ranks sixth after China (561 violations).

Due to diplomatic status, all violators were left unpunished. The diplomat from Saudi Arabia, whose actions led to the death of the cyclist, was also not punished on June 13.

The diplomat parked in the parking lot, unexpectedly opened the door of his Porsche. 55-year-old cyclist did not manage to dodge, crashed into the door and died.
