An expert in geology, Christina Gaches, in the course of scientific research, concluded that the increase in salinity of rivers and lakes in cities is due to the massive use of road salt. In particular, in the United States, more than 10 million tons of chemicals are distributed on roads each year. Most of them go into the soil and penetrate into the internal waters, which leads to an increased salt content in fresh water bodies and soil salinization, which makes them unsuitable for use in agriculture. The solution of this problem, the researcher believes, can become global warming.

In the event that the amount of snow falls every year, the number of chemicals necessary for roads and trails will decrease. Reduction of road salt on roads due to warming of climate will lead to restoration of salt balance in fresh water bodies. But this will not happen soon.

Scientists believe that significant warming awaits Earth in the period between 2040 and 2099 years. Now the task of saving fresh water and soils remains urgent.
