However, Washington is looking for a new place for the permanent work of ambassadors with a large staff and broad powers in the field.
The Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, says that he will do everything possible to make the American diplomatic representatives feel in Israel "at home".
"We are very happy about this historic step and look forward to the opening in May," reads the State Department's official notification.
