Belarus should not deploy its contingent of peacekeepers in the southeast of Ukraine. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Elena Zerkal. A representative of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission recalled that Belarus is a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) along with Russia, and therefore can not count on participating in a mission. "If we exclude [participation in the peacekeeping mission of NATO] countries, it is very logical that they do not say that the CSTO countries take part in this mission," Zerkal said, her words are quoted by "112 Ukraine". President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly expressed readiness to help resolve the conflict in the Donbass, including by sending peacekeepers. In turn, the Russian head Vladimir Putin noted that it is possible to deploy peacekeeping forces in the conflict zone only in order to ensure the security of the members of the OSCE mission. The Collective Security Treaty Organization is a regional international organization whose purpose is to collectively protect the territorial integrity of the participating countries. The organization includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
