According to the investigation conducted in Germany, a former SS resident in the federal state of Lower Saxony, was involved in the massacres in September 1941 in Ukraine of Jews, Gypsies and invalids. The Osnabruck prosecutor's office began an investigation against the man on suspicion of assisting in the killings, a spokesman for the Christian Bagug agency told EPD.

According to him, in November 2017 in the apartment of a 94-year-old suspect was searched. Bagung, however, did not specify what exactly he was charged with, citing the fact that the Lower Saxon Ministry of Justice had redirected the case to the general prosecutor's office in Celle.

Earlier in the television interview, the suspect acknowledged that he served in the SS unit, which on September 29-30 engaged in mass executions in Babi Yar in Kiev. However, he claims that at the time he was involved in the repair service and did not know anything about the executions.

The investigation into the former SS man was instituted after receiving two complaints, one of them was sent by the US Center for Simon Wiesenthal.
