He proposed his post to the head of the SPD faction in the Bundestag Andrea Nales. As reported by the Merkur publication, the presidium of the party held a meeting on Tuesday, February 13, to discuss future actions.

At the same time, the SPD leadership expressed support for the immediate appointment of Nales as acting chairman of the party.

Recall, as reported URA-Inform, the representative of the German Social Democrats Martin Schultz did not want to transfer to the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs in the new government of Germany. He explained the reason for this act by the fact that the inner-party discussions around his candidacy are a threat to the successful adoption of a coalition agreement at the party congress of the SPD.
