On Wednesday evening an urgent warning appeared for German supermarkets. It concerns the possibility of the presence in bananas supplied from Brazil, cocoons of poisonous Brazilian spiders.

Police and firemen closed the building of the Globus supermarket in Zimmer after the buyer discovered several cocoons of a spider on bananas in the fruit department.

The authorities feared that the cocoons may belong to the Brazilian wandering spider, said Thursday the head of the city police. These aggressive spiders are considered the most poisonous in the world. Their apparent presence in the party of bananas, whether actual or suspected, often causes panic in European supermarkets.

Such spiders can grow up to 15 centimeters (5.9 inches) and often hide inside banana bunches. Their neurotoxic poison can lead to paralysis and asphyxiation.

In 2016, the supermarket was closed in the German state of Lower Saxony after a wandering spider was found in a batch of bananas, causing panic. In February, employees of supermarkets in the Bavarian city of Bayreuth discovered a 10-centimeter wandering spider in a batch of bananas.

In 2005, the Brazilian wandering spider, hiding in a batch of bananas, bitten a man in England. Bitten cured, but it took a long time.
