A month after the presentation in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Exhibition CES-2018 of the NEXO serial crossover, Hyundai Motor Company presented its completely autonomous modification. Equipped with innovative technology of automatic level 4 autopilot, the car crossed 196 km of track between Seoul and the Olympic Pyeongchang without driver control. A column of 5 fully autonomous cars, of which three - NEXO crossovers and two more - Genesis G80 sedans, has made the world's first motor rally, which became a demonstration of the capabilities of the autonomous driving system of the 4th level and the latest data transmission system 5G. Until now, Hyundai cars with autonomous driving were tested at a limited speed on some sections of city roads.

During the trip from Seoul to Pyeongchang, the crossovers developed at a speed of 100-110 km / h (the maximum permitted speed in South Korea). When traveling along motorways, autonomous NEXO easily rebuilt from the strip to the lane, made overtaking of passing vehicles, drove roundabouts. The systems of recognition of road signs, traffic lights and pedestrians, included in the innovative complex of driver assistance systems ADAS, helped autonomous crossover vehicles in urban traffic. One of the tests for NEXO was a multi-kilometer tunnel ride in a tunnel where the GPS signal, thanks to which the car is oriented in space, is unavailable - and crossovers have successfully overcome it using only external sensors.
