The corresponding draft sanctions are prepared by the European Commission, reports EUobserver..

The draft document sets out the basis for the transition period after Britain's withdrawal from the EU from 29 March 2019 to 31 December 2020. A draft transitional agreement will be added to the Brexit agreement.

The draft states that the exit agreement "should provide for a mechanism that will allow the Union to suspend certain benefits that the United Kingdom receives from participating in the domestic market if it believes that the transfer of the case to the Court of Justice of the European Union will not bring the necessary measures in due time".

Court actions can last for years, while the transition period will last 21 months. The document also warns Britain "to refrain during the transition period from any actions or initiatives that are likely to damage the interests of the Union".

Recall, as previously reported, "URA-Inform", according to the new strategic document of the European Commission on the Balkan countries, Serbia and Montenegro can join the European Union in 2025.
