Voting polling stations were opened as early as eight in the morning, there was a significant increase in the electorate. In the second round of voting, the current president of the country, Nikos Anastasiadis, and the representative of the Communist Party of the AKEL (Progressive Party of the Working People) Stavros Malas. In the first round, 35 per cent of the islanders voted for Anastasiadis, while Malas was 30 per cent, so the victory of the Communists is not such a distant prospect for Cyprus.
Malas was supported by his supporters of the Conservatives, as well as representatives of the center-right party DIKO. He promises to eliminate the property gap between rich and poor.
Nikos Anastasiade is ready to solve the ethnic division of the island, establish relations with Turkey and raise the island's economy.
