The world champion in the versions of WBO and WBC in the first heavyweight champion Alexander Usik has established a unique achievement for his weight class.
Thanks to the victory over Maurice Briedis and the consolidation of two titles in his 14th fight, Alexander surpassed the record of the legendary American Evander Holyfield, who in 1987 unified the WBA and IBF belts in his 15th bout.
In addition, Alexander became the second Ukrainian in history, who combined the championship belts.
Only Vladimir Klichko managed to have two belts in his weight among Ukrainians, who won IBO and IBF titles in 2006, and several years later won WBO and WBA.
Recall, Usik won a majority decision in the fight against Briedis in the semi-final of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS), combining the titles of WBO and WBC.
In the final of the WBSS, Usik will face the winner of the Gassiev pair - Dorticos, who will fight on February 10.
