The man's addiction to chewing gum does not help him to suppress appetite and thereby lose excess pounds, scientists in the United States concluded in his new study, according to an Internet publication for girls and women aged 14 to 35 Pannochka. net Moreover, in a series of statistical tests, scientists have established that virtually all types of so-called "chewing gum" can stimulate a person to buy and consume more unhealthy food. The causes of the detected effect are completely unclear, but you can not argue with the statistics.

In fact, after consuming the chewing gum, people will want fried potatoes, cookies and candies - all those foods that contain a large number of carcinogens and sugars. Very few people in the study after the use of chewing gum consumed during the day, fruits and vegetables. Experts suggested that chewing gum, due to menthol, affects our taste buds, as a result of which the same fruits and vegetables acquire new flavors. Most often we are talking about repellent taste tints.

Christine Swoboda of Ohio State University and her colleague Jennifer Temple of the University of Buffalo conducted an independent study with 44 volunteers. In the series of game tests, they chewed gum, after which they were asked to choose a certain food for eating.

Before starting the game, half the participants chewed fruit Juicy Fruit or mint Wrigley. Those who chewed mint chewing gum, much less often during games, opted for fruits and vegetables.

In another experiment, scientists asked participants to write down everything they used during the day in a special notebook. After some time, participants were asked to chew mint gum for a week before each meal, including before snacks and continue to record dietary intake. The experiment demonstrated that in the group of participants the consumption of plant foods decreased by 30%, while the consumption of sugar and fat increased by about 20%.

The study also found that after using chewing gum, participants ate less, but this did not result in the consumption of fewer calories. Instead, participants received less nutrients and the same number of calories, by choosing more unhealthy foods.

Kristin Svoboda noted that this may be due to the fact that the menthol contained in the chewing gum when interacting with nutrients of fruits and vegetables leads to the appearance of an unpleasant bitter taste that discourages people from eating healthy food.
