Danish researchers from the University of Copenhagen argue that with the use of significant amounts of sugar, blood supply deteriorates, which eventually leads to an increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.
A total of 12 men took part in the project. All of them were to receive daily 225 g of sugar. During the experiment, they were tested: they should sit on a chair and lift one leg - this simple exercise allows you to assess the degree of blood supply to the lower limbs.
It turned out that after 2 weeks of the "sweet diet" the blood supply in the lower limbs worsened by 17%. Scientists emphasize that such a decrease in the indicator corresponds to aging to 65 years. The blood circulation returned to normal a couple of weeks after the project participants stopped eating so much sugar.
Researchers also indicate that they evaluated blood circulation only in the lower extremities. But the same processes occur throughout the body, including the brain and other organs. "If they suffer in the same degree, it is extremely disturbing," said Professor Lasse Gliemann,. "It turns out that the excessive consumption of sugar alone can significantly worsen the work of our blood vessels".
