Last year, more than 114 thousand residents of the Donetsk region applied for foreign passports, according to the General Directorate of the State Migration Service of Ukraine for the region. This is 51 thousand more than in 2016. Moreover, the documents are addressed by residents of the territories controlled by Kiev, and citizens of the self-proclaimed Donetsk republic, UNIAN notes.. The increase in demand was influenced by the introduction of a visa-free regime with the countries of the Schengen agreement - it became possible to travel to the countries of the European Union without issuing visas, experts explained. According to the annual "passport index" published by Henley & Partnerts on January 9, the Ukrainian document proved to be more valuable than Russia: Russian citizens can freely enter 110 countries of the world, and non-residents have the right to freely visit 4 states more. Earlier, in December, the EU set a condition for the Kiev authorities. They must immediately fulfill six requirements, so that Ukrainians still traveled to Europe without visas. And a month before in the very Nezalezhnaya, calls were voiced to cancel the visa-free regime with the European Union. Visa-free regime between Ukraine and the EU began to operate on June 11, 2017. Ukrainians can be on the territory of the Schengen zone no more than 90 days within six months. However, they do not have the right to work or study in Europe.
