The construction of this neo-Romanesque basilica was completed in 1891, and for 122 years it was the center of the cultural life of the village. Destruction of Immerat will be finished in two weeks, all works are carried out by the energy company RWE Power.
Immerat and the local cathedral are being destroyed for the production of brown coal, the largest deposits of which are located in this region.
According to the approved plan, many settlements of the coal basin will be demolished, in their place in the future will be a pit. Work continues despite protests from local residents.
As previously reported in URA-Inform, during January-December last year Ukrainian miners were able to extract 35 million tons of coal. So, in 2017 it was planned to produce at least 35.6 million tons of coal, but the figures for the past year indicate a decrease in production by one percent.
