Rector of Taurida National University. Vernadsky Vladimir Kazarin believes that "visa-free travel" prompted Crimean students to transfer to higher educational institutions of the mainland Ukraine. He expressed this opinion on the air of the "Gromadsky Radio" "During this period, which we are working in Kiev, we probably went a long way. Our students are constantly in different countries on internships, take part in exchange programs, so I think it was a difficult, intense but fruitful period. The flow of transferring students from the Crimea continues continuously and increases for a number of reasons. The last powerful factor that prompted young people to translate is "visa-free". In Crimea, all exchange programs are closed, you can not go anywhere. In the mainland Ukraine you get the opportunity to be a citizen of the world, "said Kazarin.

In early 2015, the Russian government of the Crimea abolished the Tavrida National University named after Vernadsky. In the same year, a united "federal university" was created, which included several universities, including TNU, the Crimean State Medical University. Georgievsky, and several other scientific organizations. The structure of the "Crimean Federal University" includes about 13 educational and scientific organizations.

On the mainland of Ukraine, since 2016, the Tavrichesky National University (TNU) named after Vernadsky has worked, who moved from the annexed Crimea. At the university there are programs for transfer of students, simplified admission of entrants.

On June 11, 2017, visa liberalization for Ukrainians came into effect on short trips to the EU and Schengen countries (up to 90 days for every 180 days without the right to work). The visa-free regime applies to all member states of the European Union, except for Great Britain and Ireland, as well as countries of the "Schengen zone" outside the EU. This regime does not yet apply to the so-called "overseas possessions" of the Netherlands and France.

To use the visa-free regime with the EU, from June 11, Ukrainians must have a biometric passport and, if asked by border guards, to prove the purpose and conditions of the trip, their solvency. According to the State Border Service, for half a year of the visa-free regime with the EU countries it was used by 355 000 Ukrainians.
