Appointment of judges by the High Council of Justice, the President or the Verkhovna Rada does not suit Ukrainians.
Most often, Ukrainian citizens believe that in order for judges to be independent, they should be elected by citizens (37.7%), according to a poll by the Razumkov Center.
Significantly fewer respondents (16.8%) believe that they should be appointed by the High Council of Justice, and an insignificant share holds the opinion that they should be appointed by the president (4.7%), the Verkhovna Rada (4.3%), the regional council 2.6%).
Another 15.1% believe that it does not matter who they are appointed or elected, 17.6% found it difficult to answer.
The survey of the Razumkov Center was conducted on October 6-11, 2017 among 2019 respondents in all regions of Ukraine for the exclusion of the occupied territories. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%.
According to the poll data of the Razumkov Center, the Ukrainian society does not support the reforms proposed by the government and the president. In particular, 12.6% of respondents supported the judicial reform in October 2017, 49.1% were against, 11.9% were indifferent, 26.3% were at a loss to answer.
