Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Vitaly Mutko will voluntarily leave the post of president of the Russian Football Union (RFU).

This is with reference to its sources, the Russian edition of "Kommersant".

The reason for this may be doping scandals in Russian sports, because of which FIFA refuses to work with a functionary.

It is also reported that Mutko will be replaced by the general director of the organizing committee of the 2018 World Cup Alexei Sorokin. At the same time, Mutko will remain in the civil service.

Note that earlier because of the doping scandal, the International Olympic Committee suspended Mutko for life from the Olympic Movement.

And the executive committee of the IOC in Lausanne suspended the Russian national team from participating in the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, which will be held in February. "Clean" Russian athletes were allowed to participate under the Olympic flag.
