The United States of America vetoed the document, while all the other 14 Security Council members supported it. The draft resolution was submitted by Egypt over the weekend.
The draft expresses deep regret at the recent decisions on the status of Jerusalem. At the same time, in the formulations proposed by Egypt, the US is not directly mentioned.
The document, in particular, notes that any decisions and actions aimed at changing the status of Jerusalem do not have legal force, and in accordance with the draft resolution such decisions should be canceled. In addition, the draft calls on all states to abandon the establishment of diplomatic missions in Jerusalem.
At the same time, the US blocked a resolution. According to the US Permanent Representative to the UN, Nikki Haley, this was the first veto imposed by the US in the Security Council for more than six years. What we saw here in the Security Council is an insult. It will not be forgotten, - said Haley.
Recall, as reported URA-Inform, in early December, US President Donald Trump announced a decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and place there the US Embassy. This decision was condemned by many Islamic and European countries.
