To fulfill the main objective of the Paris Agreement (to reduce carbon emissions and stop global warming), the European Commission expects to attract private investors to finance climate projects. So far, for the required results, environmental projects need an additional 179 billion euros per year, and government grants can not provide such funding, notes EuroPulse.
The second initiative of the EU is connected with the help of eco-projects in other regions, primarily in Africa and neighboring countries of the EU. The European Union established the Sustainable Development Fund, which supports such projects. There are several similar funds for different regions.
The European Commission plans to support the cities in their quest to move to a more "green" life. The new European initiative to support the cities of URBIS will help local authorities create green development plans, make the most efficient use of their resources and enjoy EU support.
The fourth initiative directly concerns 15 million Europeans who live on 2,4 thousand islands, members of the EU. It will help isolated communities build autonomous energy systems and reduce the burden on the environment by eliminating additional transport.
A separate initiative was developed for regions actively using coal. 3 pilot regions in Slovakia, Poland and Greece will work with the European Commission to develop scenarios for the transition from the coal industry to other sectors of the economy and employment. And 5 more regions will focus on developing new knowledge and skills from the local population and attracting investors.
A separate initiative will help young people find themselves in "green" professions. Within the framework of the academic mobility programs of Erasmus + and the volunteer programs of the European Solidarity Corps, the areas of training related to employment and youth projects in the green economy will be developed.
The special project Smart Finance for Smart Buildings Facility will allow attracting private investors to the sector of creating smart houses, which, among other things, will have to regulate their own energy efficiency.
Another initiative is related to the conversion of existing buildings to a more efficient energy consumption scheme.
The ninth initiative will create two funds - modernization and innovation, which will support the development of industry in a more "green" direction.
Finally, the tenth initiative is connected with the development of all forms of "green transport".
The Summit "One Planet" is timed to the 2 nd anniversary of the signing of the Paris Agreement, the main goal of which is to keep global warming within 2 degrees Celsius in comparison with 1989.
