In August 2006, Gil Vicente was dropped in the class due to the fact that he used the Angolian Mateus. The reason was the complaint of the departed Belenenses, who thanks to her kept a place in the elite.

The fact is that Mateus played for Fox Lees, who dropped in the class to an amateur level. According to football laws, the Angolan was obliged to spend at least one year in the status of an amateur, but did not do so, but moved to Gil Vicente.

Vicente argued that Mateus did not have to do this, because Lixa did not use him as a professional football player - he was decorated in the club as a cleaner.

After the decision to downgrade in the class, Gil Vicente appealed to a civil court, which confirmed his case, but the case interfered FIFA, leaving the club in the second division.
