UEFA and the Geneva office of the United Nations announced the joint holding of the Solidarity Match.

UEFA and the Geneva office of the United Nations announced today the joint organization of the Solidarity Match, which will also be supported by the Republic and the Canton of Geneva, the city of Geneva and the Geneva Stadium Foundation.

Charity meeting with the participation of former stars and prominent players of the past will be held on April 21, 2018 at the "Stade de Geneve".

The goal of the Solidarity Match is to promote peaceful coexistence, the struggle for human rights and the enhancement of the overall welfare through the implementation of the sustainable development goals that the UN has set for itself. Revenues from the match, charity dinner and virtual auction will be transferred to the UEFA Children's Fund and then used to finance international humanitarian and development programs. The projects will be selected by a special committee, which will include representatives of UEFA, the United Nations Geneva Office and the Geneva Stadium Foundation.

Coaches of the teams will be Carlo Ancelotti and Didier Deschamps, and captains - Luis Figo and Ronaldinho. In the coming weeks, mentors and captains will select players for their teams. The main arbiter will be the former Italian referee Pierluigi Collina.

UEFA President Alexander Cheferin spoke about the project: "We are pleased to join forces with the United Nations and its bodies in Geneva to organize this Solidarity Match. UEFA firmly intends to remain a structure that adheres to the principles of social fair play, and we believe that supporting humanitarian projects with the help of football is our responsibility. I am convinced that together with the UN and the Children's Fund of UEFA we are able to raise significant funds that can be used for good purposes around the world ".
