Many of us do not think about a healthy lifestyle without regular sauna visits; this relaxing procedure is attributed to the ability to excrete toxins and accelerate the metabolism, according to an online edition for girls and women from 14 to 35 years old Pannochka. net New research has shown that a sauna can do a lot: it reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality.

The study, which was conducted by Dr. Jari Laukkanen from the University of Eastern Finland in Kuopio, was published in the publication JAMA Internal Medicine.

Previous studies have shown that the sauna has a significant effect on the heart and blood vessels. The high temperature in the sauna, which is recommended to maintain at 80-1000C, is associated with improved blood circulation, lower blood pressure and normalization of the pumping function of the heart.

Dr. Laukkanen and his colleagues note that before them few people in the scientific world have considered the connection between regular sauna visits and the risk of death from cardiovascular diseases, as well as all-cause mortality,.

To fill this gap in knowledge, Finnish scientists analyzed a group of 2,315 men aged 42-60 who lived in Eastern Finland and took part in a long-term study of the Finnish Kuopio Ischemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study.

At the time of the study, all the men filled in the questionnaires, which reported how many times a week they visited the sauna, how long it took them to average and what temperature they preferred. The study lasted almost 21 years. During this time, there were 190 sudden cardiac deaths, 407 fatal cardiovascular diseases and 929 deaths from all causes.

Only 4-7 sessions a week significantly reduce the risk of CVD and death. Scientists have found that men who visit the sauna 2-3 times a week have a 22% less risk of sudden cardiac death, a 27% less risk of fatal cardiovascular disease and 24% less death from all causes compared to those who visit the sauna once a week.

Those participants who visited the sauna 4-7 times a week, received the maximum benefit from the procedure. They had a 63% chance of sudden cardiac death, a 50% risk of fatal cardiovascular disease, and a 40% reduction in mortality from all causes compared to men who sweated once a week.

The length of the session also matters. Scientists have calculated that men who spend in sauna 11-19 minutes per session have a 7% less risk of sudden cardiac death compared to those who are less than 11 minutes. If the session lasts more than 19 minutes, the risk is reduced by 52% (!) The researchers say that their results remain reliable after the addition of important factors such as smoking, cholesterol and triglycerides, blood pressure, etc..

In their article the authors state: "Our study provided evidence that the sauna can protect against cardiovascular diseases and reduce mortality in middle-aged men. These results allow us to say that the habit of going to the sauna is a healthy habit that can be recommended for strengthening the cardiovascular system. At the same time, more research is needed to test these results on other populations ".

Scientists want in the near future to organize such a study involving women. Although they do not know exactly why a sauna is so useful for the heart, there is one hypothesis. A sauna can increase the heart rate similar to how low- and medium-intensity exercise does. And this, as you know, is useful for training the cardiovascular system.

A few words about training. Recently, the Journal of the American Heart Association recently reported that every minute of daily physical activity has a tangible positive effect on the cardiovascular system in the elderly with limited mobility.
