The best coach of the year 2017 in Ukraine was recognized as the head coach of the Miner Paulo Fonseca.

The Portuguese won the fight for the award, which was awarded during the award ceremony of Ukrainian Football Stars of 2017, Yuri Vernidub from Zarya and Roman Sanzhar from Olympique.

In 2017, Fonseca led Shakhtar to victories in the Ukrainian Premier League, the Ukrainian Cup and the Super Cup of Ukraine. Also under his leadership, Shakhtar managed to reach the 1/8 finals of the Champions League.
