The Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee at the meeting decided not to allow the Russian national team for the Winter Olympic Games to be held in 2018.
It should be noted that only "clean" athletes who did not use prohibited drugs can participate in the OI-2018. They will act under a neutral flag. It is reported that Russians are prohibited from demonstrating any attributes of their country, showing the flag and the inscription "Russia" and playing the national anthem.
Recall that the reason for the removal of Russia from OI-2018 is the massive use of doping athletes. Earlier it was reported that the IOC had already taken 11 medals from Russians. Because of this, in the team event they dropped from 1 to 3 places.
At the meeting of the executive committee, the Russian authorities intervened to work in the state anti-doping system. In addition, there was a test of doping samples of Russian athletes from the Olympics, held in 2014 in Sochi.
Interests from Russia were represented by the president of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov, the head of the Independent Public Anti-Doping Commission Vitaly Smirnov and the two-time world figure skating champion Yevgeny Medvedev. Winter Olympic Games-2018 will be held in the South Korean city of Pyeongchang from 9th to 25th February.
