The International Olympic Committee took away the gold and bronze medals of the 2014 Games in Sochi from Russian athletes. The commission examined the cases of four skeletonists: Alexander Tretyakov, Elena Nikitina, Maria Orlova and Olga Potylitsyna. All of them were found guilty of violating anti-doping rules, according to the website of the international organization. Also athletes were suspended for life from participation in competitions. In addition, the results of Tretyakov and Nikitina at the Sochi Olympics canceled. They were called to immediately return the medals won. Earlier on November 1, the IOC deported skiers Alexander Legkov, Maxim Vylegzhanin, Alexander Belov, Alexei Petukhov, Evgeny Shapovalov and Yulia Ivanov from participating in the Games. Russia has already lost five medals - two gold, two silver and one bronze. In the summer of 2016, an international investigation began on the basis of the report of the independent commission of Richard McLaren. The ad hoc working group continues to investigate the doping tests of Russian athletes and examine the government's involvement in the possible concealment of the use of banned drugs.
Decision on the participation of Russian athletes at the Olympics in South Korea will be made in early December.
