While accurate information about the number of rescued or injured is not reported. The Spanish authorities estimated that only this year more than 17.5 thousand African migrants arrived in the country, which twice exceeded the number in 2016.

According to the estimates of the International Organization for Migration, only in 2017 about 337 thousand migrants arrived to Europe by sea, more than three thousand people were sunk during a dangerous journey.
