The incident occurred in the morning on local time in one of the educational institutions in California. As reported by the KCRA3 television channel referring to the local sheriff, the shooter killed three people, after which he was shot by policemen.

The first shots rattled around 8:00 am at the school on the outskirts of the town of Corning, Tehaima County, an assistant to the sheriff Phil Johnston. A cafeteria employee, located next to the school, told KCRC TV that she had heard about 100 shots. Her husband, also a witness, told of a white pickup truck that drove to the school through the gate, after which a fire was opened from the car's window.

In turn, the father of one of the students said that as soon as he brought his daughter to the school by car and sent her to classes, he heard sounds resembling fireworks. Then he saw an employee run out of the school and shouted for children to immediately run into the building, because someone is shelling the building.

The man added that at least two students were injured, one was injured in the leg, the other was injured in the shoulder. According to him, shooting was opened by two men dressed in camouflage clothes. They looked like they were from 30 to 40 years old. Officials do not yet confirm the exact number of casualties and injuries. Also it is not specified whether there are any students among the dead.

According to the local Medical Center, three people were taken by ground transport to the hospital, one by helicopter.
