According to preliminary data, the commission began a public discussion of the fight against fake news.

A "high-level expert group" was created, which should include scientists, online platforms, media and public organizations.

"We must give our citizens the means to distinguish fake news, increase online confidence and streamline the information they receive," said Vice-President of the European Commission France Timmermans.

Thus, the European Commission invited experts to submit applications for participation in this group. The result of discussion of the topic of combating disinformation should be possible measures to improve access to reliable and accurate information.

As the European Commissioner for Single Digital Market Andrus Ansip stated, one must find a balanced approach between freedom of speech, media pluralism and the right of citizens to access diverse and reliable information.

As previously reported in URA-Inform, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine signed an agreement on "Supporting reforms to promote the rule of law in Ukraine". Ukraine needs two or three years of quality intensive work to carry out reforms in the field of law. The commission will allocate funds amounting to 52 million euros for the adoption of certain laws that will help transform legal reforms.
