According to the International Maritime Bureau, in just nine months of 2017, 121 cases of piracy and armed robberies were recorded in international waters. The Bureau also added that the Guinea Bay, where an attack on a German ship was committed, is considered particularly dangerous due to pirates' actions.

Recall, as reported URA-Inform, October 21 pirates attacked the container ship Demeter in the Gulf of Guinea to the south of the Nigerian city of Port Harcourt. Eight pirates in speed boat attacked the ship, when he came to the Nigerian port. They abducted six crew members, including the ship's captain. Then the Foreign Ministry reported that among the abducted crew members was one citizen of Ukraine.
