A resident of Cherkassy in his own yard opened a farm to grow mini cacti, reports the Main with reference to Today. ua.
Alexander Gavrilenko and his twin brother Yuri since childhood were fond of exotic plants, and now Alexander makes good money on his hobby.
The first cacti in Cherkassy began to appear in the 1970s and were considered a curiosity. According to Alexander, plant connoisseurs went for cacti to Russia and bought rare species for 100-500 Soviet rubles.
In the early 2000s, Alexander realized that the cultivation of desert plants is his vocation, but it is difficult to breed them in an apartment. Therefore, he moved with his family to the private sector, where he almost built his own greenhouse for his plants. In winter, it heats it with firewood, maintaining the minimum temperature.
The collection of Gavrilenko now has unique plants. For example, Alexander purchased a recently found in Mexico species of cacti Aztecium valdezii (Aztekium valdezii), which was discovered several years ago. For two copies the size of a pea paid 800 UAH.
His plants and seeds are bought all over the world.
There are buyers from Ukraine, Georgia, England, Holland and even India, - says the owner of the farm.
