According to the department, the Nobel Prize was awarded "for the discovery of molecular mechanisms that control the circadian rhythm".

It is noted that Jeffrey Hall, Michael Rosbash and Michael Young "looked inside our biological clock and figured out its internal mechanisms".

Their discovery explains how plants, animals and humans manage to adapt their biological rhythm so that it is synchronized with the "Earth revolutions".
