Streptococcal meningitis - purulent meningitis that occurs when generalizing streptococcal infection or when penetrating pathogens into the meninges from nearby organs.

Causes The causative agent of meningitis is a hemolytic or green streptococcus, which has pronounced toxic properties that determine the virulence of the microbe and its aggressiveness.

Symptoms In the picture of the disease, the symptoms of meningoencephalitis often are predominant: depression of consciousness, frequent clonic-tonic convulsions, early focal symptoms along with signs of severe septicemia (high, high temperature fluctuations, subcutaneous hemorrhages, deafness of cardiac tones, enlarged liver and spleen).

Diagnosis Isolation of the pathogen is the most reliable method. Produce it by sowing blood, mucus from the nose and throat, sputum, cerebrospinal fluid on blood agar.

Treatment In streptococcal meningitis intramuscularly used semisynthetic penicillins (methicillin, oxacillin, ampicillin) at a dose of 200-300 mg / kg per day. Levomycetin sodium succinate is also prescribed in a dose of 60-80 mg / kg per day, klaforan - 50-80 mg / kg per day.
