Trichomoniasis is an inflammatory disease of the urogenital system caused by a vaginal trichomonas. This is one of the most frequent diseases of the genital area, this disease affects 60-70% of women who have excess leucorrhoea. Trichomoniasis ranks 2 - 3 in the list of sexually transmitted diseases (after gonorrhea and chlamydia).

Causes The causative agent of the disease is sexually transmitted. Vaginal trichomonads are unstable to the action of various environmental factors and under their influence quickly die, but in violation of the sanitary-hygienic regime, it is also possible to have a non-contagious infection. In this way, a sick mother can infect a girl.

Symptoms Male and female patients are ill, although in men the trichomoniasis usually proceeds imperceptibly. Inflammation of the urethra caused by Trichomonas may be accompanied by only mild mucous discharge that does not cause trouble. Remaining practically healthy, the man, not suspecting of the disease, can not be treated and serves as a constant source of infection. Untreated trichomoniasis can lead to the spread of inflammation to the epididymis, which often results in infertility; possible transition of the disease to a chronic form, difficult to treat. Women are more often affected by the vagina. The disease is manifested by the release of white, often corroding with an unpleasant odor; itching and burning in the vagina and in the vulva. With a decrease in body resistance, as well as during menstruation, inflammation can spread to the uterus and its appendages. When detecting trichomoniasis in a woman, it is necessary to treat both spouses.

Diagnosis Diagnosis of trichomoniasis consists in the bacteriological detection of vaginal trichomonads after staining of Gram stains, or in native (fresh) preparations.

The method of research in native preparations for the presence of trichomonads is very simple: an isotonic solution is applied to the slide, a fresh drop of vaginal discharge is added, then the preparation is examined under a microscope. However, with this method of diagnosis, it is not always possible to identify trichomonads at once, so it is necessary to carry out a study repeatedly.

A modern technique for detecting trichomonads in the body is the search for genetic markers with the help of polymerase chain reaction (PCR).

Treatment Treatment of trichomoniasis is long; untimely unauthorized cessation of treatment (with the disappearance of manifestations of the disease) often leads to a relapse and the appearance of trichomonads resistant to the drugs used. Treatment of general and local trichomoniasis.

For the general treatment use metronidazole (trizopol, flagil), tinidazol. These drugs, when administered orally, act on all foci of Trichomonas infection. Metronidazole is administered orally 0.25 g 2 times a day for 7-10 days. Effective is considered an accelerated scheme, in which the course dose (5 g) is given for 5 days (0.25 g 4 times a day). Tinidazole is taken once in a dose of 2 g.

During the treatment period, the rules of personal hygiene must be strictly observed; It is necessary to change daily linen, iron it with a hot iron, take a hygienic shower, thoroughly washing the body; need sexual abstinence.

After treatment, it is necessary to periodically visit a doctor for a follow-up examination (2-3 months after the menstrual period).
