Scammers have found a new way to choose a password for online banking of the victim - with the help of her SIM-card. In the Interbank Association, the EMA was told about how this scheme works and how to protect its funds from scammers.
How do scammers access the SIM card?.
Method 1:.
The fraudster impersonates the buyer of the goods and several times calls the victim from different numbers. After this, the fraudster contacts the mobile operator on behalf of the victim and blocks her card. And after some time, posing as a cardholder unlocks it and asks for a duplicate, using information about the last three conversations of the victim.
After this, an attacker can enter the Internet banking of the SIM card holder by changing the password (because of the "Did you forget the password?" Service), and transfer all the victim's money to your account.
Method 2:.
The fraudster makes a lot of calls at night, when the victim probably will not figure out who is calling her. Then he blocks the card and repeats the procedure described in the previous paragraph.
These schemes are similar and are used quite often. However, now the attackers have a new cynical move. They call back to their victim on behalf of the bank's security staff and report that fraud is uncovered and the money will be returned to the card. To receive funds, you should "check the work of the card" - after making a money transfer.
How not to become a victim of scammers?.
-If you are struck (or asked to call back) an unfamiliar person from different numbers - this should already alert. It does not matter who the caller was. As soon as he asks for contact with him on the second, third number - there is a risk of fraud!.
-Try to indicate in the online ads the phone number to which your banking is not tied.
-If you found out that the SIM card with your "financial number" (the one to which all operations with the card is tied) is blocked - immediately, call the bank and block your bank card.
-Do not believe that bank employees can ask you to transfer money to your card. These are not bank employees, but scammers! Real bank employees will never offer you such a.
