Google announced the acquisition of Bitium, which specializes in creating enterprise-class tools to manage the identification and access of users to cloud services using Single Sign On (SSO) technology and other authentication mechanisms. Terms of the transaction are not disclosed.

Single SSO technology allows a user to switch from one cloud service to another without re-authentication. Its use will help Google improve the management of the deployment of corporate cloud clients throughout the organization, including setting security levels and access policies for applications that run through Google Cloud and G Suite.

Founded in 2012, Bitium focuses on representatives of medium and large businesses. The company offers a single solution for managing applications Google Apps, Office 365, social networking, CRM-systems, as well as tools for collaboration and marketing. At the same time, organizations continue to maintain security standards.

The purpose of Bitium is to simplify the process of administering and using popular cloud applications, eliminating the need for employees to use their personal accounts in various cloud services due to the fact that the company's proposed alternative is unconventional or difficult to access.

The deal should help Google Cloud compete with Microsoft, which offers its own Azure Active Directory solution to provide cloud-based identity management.
