American scientists have created a unique biometric scanner that can significantly simplify the process of human identification.

The recent launch of the iPhone X and its unlocking technology with face recognition have forced the biometric security industry to begin to work with renewed vigor. A team of researchers from the University of Buffalo has developed a new biometric tool that analyzes the size of a person's heart to provide biometric protection in accessing various devices.

In the human body, there are many unique biometric markers that can be used as a personalized access code. In 2014, Nymi developed a heart-based biometric system that identifies the human electrocardiogram signal using a heart rate bracelet. Now researchers from the University of Buffalo have introduced a system that uses low-level Doppler radar to determine the unique shape and size of the human heart.

As the creators of the new system say, two people with the same hearts do not exist. In addition, this body does not change its shape throughout the life of a person unless, of course, a person suffers from a serious heart failure.

For the measurement of human heart parameters, the system needs only eight seconds, then the system is able to continuously monitor the presence of a person nearby, providing continuous authentication without any contact with the body.

During the experimental study with 78 subjects, the cardiac scanning system reached an accuracy of 98.61%.

Further development of the technology will include miniaturization of the device, increasing accuracy and range of operation. The current version of the system already allows you to identify a person at a distance of 30 meters. This was reported by the site New Atlas.
