According to the estimates of the analytical company Berg Insight, in 2016 the world market of portable electronics was measured at 96.5 million devices, while in 2015 the indicator was at the level of 75.1%. Experts predict that in the coming years, the supply of devices such as smart watches, smart glasses, fitness bracelets and various trackers, as well as smart clothes and medical gadgets will increase by an average of 22.2% and by 2021 reached 262.5 million units.

It is expected that Bluetooth will remain the main way of wireless connection in portable electronics. The cellular communication function will be present only in about 27 million portable devices sold in 2021. Basically, the built-in cellular communication will be allocated smart watches and trackers that monitor the location and safety of the user.

Berg Insight expects a significant increase in sales of smart watches in 2017: shipments will increase by 66% and reach 35 million units. The leading manufacturer of these devices analysts call Apple, which is competing Samsung and vendors that produce gadgets based on the Android Wear platform, such as Motorola, LG and Huawei. It is assumed that the introduction of new technologies and the growing awareness of consumers about smart watches will allow this category to become the largest segment of the market of portable electronics by 2019.

While in the first place remain trackers of physical activity and fitness bracelets. In 2017, their supply is projected at 74 million units. The greatest success in this category has recently been achieved by Xiaomi, whose gadget popularity is fueled by interest in its products in Asian markets. At the same time, industry pioneers Fitbit and Garmin are experiencing growing pressure from other manufacturers, including representatives of the smartphone industry.

Despite strong competition from the "smart" hours, fitness trackers will not lose their relevance due to lower prices and new form factors. Experts believe that by 2021 the deliveries of these devices will reach 81 million units.

Speaking of developing categories, analysts added that in the next five years smart clothes with built-in sensors will be introduced more widely in the market: its deliveries will increase from 1.56 million units in 2016 to 18.3 million units in 2021.

Positive dynamics is also expected in the market of medical wearable electronics, smart points and other segments.
