Scientists from the University of Coventry and Oxford University came to the conclusion that sexual activity contributes to the prolongation of youth, including interfering with the development of senile dementia and other problems with the intellect. The article is published in The Journals of Gerontology: Series B. This is reported by Birmingham Mail. The study involved 73 people (28 men and 45 women) aged 50 to 83 years. Among them, a survey was conducted, during which they indicated how often they had had sex during the last 12 months. In addition, scientists asked about the lifestyle of respondents and their health status. Subjects also passed a test to assess various cognitive abilities, including memory, attention and vocabulary. People with a high level of sexual activity showed better results in problems of verbal fluency. The participants of the experiment were to name for a minute as many animals or words as possible starting with a certain letter. They also well repainted complex drawings. Experts hope that further research will help to understand whether such compounds as dopamine and oxytocin are involved in providing a link between sexual activity and the brain.
