The space probe Cassini transmitted to the Earth the latest video and photos of geysers made on the southern pole of Enceladus, the sixth-largest satellite of Saturn, reports NASA.

The Cassini probe, studying Saturn and its satellites since 2005, became the main source of new information about Enceladus, one of the most interesting and mysterious moons of the giant planet. Almost immediately after arriving at the Saturn system, the NASA probe found hints of the existence of geysers on the surface of this icy moon, which led scientists to look for other traces of water - in its interior and on its surface.

For 12 years of operation of the probe "Cassini" it became known that under the ice crust of Enceladus there is a giant under ice ocean filled with relatively warm and fresh water, in which, in principle, there can exist a life feeding on hydrogen. Today, scientists seriously consider the moon of Saturn as the main candidate for the role of the first refuge of extraterrestrial life.

Life of the probe is nearing its end - on September 15, "Cassini" will enter the dense layers of the atmosphere of Saturn and will burn, while transmitting information to Earth.

The Cassini space station was launched into space in 1997 to study Saturn and its satellites, mainly Enceladus and Titan. This is reported by "The Mirror of the Week. Ukraine".
