In women who can not become pregnant within 1 year, the risk of premature birth is slightly increased. In half the cases, the cause of premature birth remains a mystery, and experts believe that their cause may be problems with fertilization. This is a very urgent issue, because according to statistics, every 10 children are born to couples who have tried to conceive it for more than 1 year.
Premature birth (birth of the child before 37 weeks of pregnancy) is a serious social problem, as premature babies have a higher risk of dying in the first year of life, and if they survive, they have a higher percentage of the pathology of the heart, lungs and brain.
Over the past 20 years in the US, the birth rate of premature infants has increased from 9.4% to 12%, and this, about half a million of these newborns annually. The reasons are not quite clear. Premature birth is often caused by stress in the mother or fetus, infections, hypertension, bleeding or increased uterine tone. In other cases, the causes are not known.
Scientists from the University of Arhaus, Denmark studied the data of 56,000 women giving birth, who were asked before the delivery how long it took them to get pregnant with the fact that they had a regular sex life. This is important, because according to WHO, about 11% of women do not get pregnant within a year, then infertility is diagnosed and half of these women seek specific treatment.
Premature births occurred in 5.4% of those women who became pregnant in the first year, 7.4% of women who became pregnant later than in the first year, and 7.6% of women who received treatment for infertility and those who became pregnant.
It turned out that women who have problems with conception, the probability of premature birth is 40% more than those who do not have such problems. For women who had temporary problems with the onset of pregnancy, the risk is at least small, but still there is.
With the help of this study, scientists are trying to figure out factors that increase the risk of premature birth. Doctors suspect that premature births often develop with quite specific (and not for any) reasons leading to infertility, and plan to figure it out in the following works. In itself, treatment for infertility was considered the cause of preterm delivery, but according to these studies, the difference in the number of premature births is only 0.2%, which can not be regarded as significant differences.
In most of the previous studies, women who had undergone treatment with infertility were compared to women who had no problems in this area. There were fewer studies comparing women who had been treated and those who had problems, but did not need treatment.
Perhaps the reason is not in the treatment of infertility, but in some factors related to its causes. In the course of the work it was also found out that in women, with problems of fertilization, delivery was performed more often by cesarean section and babies were born. However, given the factors such as the age of the mother, obesity and smoking, this relationship is significantly weakened.
