They recognized the test as a "new and unacceptable" escalation of the situation. At the same time, both Merkel and Trump agreed that the international community should continue to exert pressure on the DPRK, and the UN Security Council to tighten sanctions against Pyongyang.
In turn, Merkel confirmed that Berlin will seek retaliatory measures against North Korea at the level of the European Union.
