Experts from the American Association for Cancer Research say that people who are overweight are more likely than others to develop 16 types of cancer. This is stated in an article published in the publication Eurekalert.
The authors of the study remind that in the world every year more and more people suffer from excess weight, which, in turn, is one of the main factors of development of oncological diseases.
Scientists conducted a survey of studies for the period from January 1946 to March 2017 regarding carcinogenesis (the pathophysiological process of tumor origin and development), concluding that fat cells are the "food" for 16 cancers.
Thus, stromal cells of adipose tissue promote tumor growth, resulting in prostate or breast cancer progressing in people suffering from obesity.
Also, scientists found that white fats increase the risk of developing breast cancer.
In the future, the authors of the study intend to look for ways to block the processes associated with tumor growth.
