According to scientists from the University of Texas Southwest Medical Center in Dallas, exercise significantly reduces the severity of depression in patients already taking drugs on this issue. In their opinion, the biggest problem in the treatment of depression is that, even despite treatment, patients have residual effects.

Drugs are effective, but inadequate. Currently, the most accepted strategy is to prescribe another drug, which increases the likelihood of side effects. It should be noted that by recommending physical exercises for these problems it is possible to avoid and strengthen health.

Seventeen patients with an average age of 39 years. Residual phenomena are still present, no matter what drug the patient takes: whether it's serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or venlafaxine, is the newest drug to fight the disease. All the same, there are such symptoms as insomnia, inability to concentrate, depressed mood, and irritability.

The average age at onset of depression in subjects is 25 years. The severity and severity of depression was assessed using the special Axis I methods, in accordance with the Recommendations on Diagnosis and Statistics of Mental Disorders. Even before the study, the subjects were already treated medically for 1 to 9 months. Patients led a sedentary lifestyle and exercised less than 3 days a week.

Physical exercises included jogging, walking, cycling for 12 weeks, at least for 30 minutes, most days a week. The energy equivalent of loads from the prescribed exercises was 17.5 kcal per 1 kg of weight per week. Every week, doctors and patients evaluated the severity of the symptoms of the disease.

At an objective inspection, that is by estimations of doctors by means of special scales it was possible to define, that after such treatment the severity of symptoms has decreased 2,5 times. Subjectively, that is, according to the patients themselves, by the end of 12 weeks, the severity of signs of depression decreased almost threefold. So dear patients, stop oppressing, get busy!.
