US authorities demanded to close the Russian consulate in San Francisco. This was reported by the US State Department.

Now both countries have three consulates (Russia will have consulates in New York, Houston and Seattle). Until September 2, one diplomatic building in Washington and New York will also be closed.

It is noted that this is the answer to the "unreasonable and malicious" demands of Russia that the US has fulfilled. Washington is ready for "further measures," but calls for the abandonment of subsequent retaliatory actions, added to the State Department.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, before announcing the closure of the consulate, had a conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and warned him. Lavrov "expressed regret" and promised to react later.
